Robinhood begins rolling out US crypto perps at up to 10x leverage as launch date is disputed
Robinhood says crypto perpetual futures with up to 10x leverage are reaching US traders, but outlets disagree on whether the eight-asset product launched on Sept. 29 or arrives in coming months.
Why it matters
Bitcoin Insider described U.S. retail traders as largely locked out of crypto perpetuals with meaningful leverage before this, and Unchained tied the opening to a late-May CFTC move that cleared Kalshi to list a bitcoin perpetual and Coinbase to route U.S. clients to perps on its Bermuda affiliate. Bitcoin Magazine's interview with Robinhood vice president of institutional crypto Nicola White credits the U.S. rollout to a CFTC no-action letter, the Bitstamp exchange, whose acquisition closed in June 2025 for about $200 million, and Robinhood Derivatives. CoinDesk reported Lighter down 17% over 24 hours, in a market report that placed the move after Robinhood's announcement and put bitcoin at $83,164.

What happened
Robinhood said on Sept. 29, 2026 at its HOOD Summit in Houston that eligible U.S. customers will be able to trade crypto perpetual futures through Robinhood Derivatives, using Bitstamp infrastructure, on contracts with no expiration date. The product covers eight assets, BTC, ETH, SOL, XRP, DOGE, ADA, LINK and HYPE, with up to 10x on bitcoin and ether, 3x on the other six, and a 0.01% trading fee through the end of 2026. The outlets do not agree on whether it is already live: Crypto News reported the rollout began for US traders on Sept. 29, while Crypto.News, Unchained, BTC-ECHO and Bitcoin.com News put arrival in the coming months, and Bitcoin Insider documented the same split between CryptoBriefing and crypto.news. CEO Vlad Tenev wrote on X that Robinhood is bringing 'America's first true perps', with profit and loss settled every 15 minutes, and Crypto.News reported stop-loss and take-profit orders plus real-time liquidation prices in the app. The same summit introduced Robinhood Agents, in-app AI agents that research markets and place trades from a dedicated account, and a plan for weekend trading in selected U.S. stocks and ETFs from early 2027, pending regulatory approval. Separately, Arcus said on Oct. 1 that Robinhood Wallet now routes Stock Token swaps through its API, giving eligible users in supported jurisdictions access to more than 190 tokens.
