Hyperliquid drops below $90 after a 177,518 HYPE exchange deposit and a Hypersphere Ventures sale

HYPE fell below $90 in late September as a wallet sent 177,518 HYPE worth $16.08 million to OKX and Bybit and another wallet sold 62,869 HYPE.

Why it matters

The HYPE decline lines up with several large-holder flows, and the deposits and unstaking described put a large amount of supply into positions where it can be sold. The evidence does not show that the exchange deposit resulted in sales, and a separate treasury bought $45.8 million of HYPE over the same period, so the flows do not point one way.

What happened

Hyperliquid traded near $89.13 on September 28, down 4.5% over 24 hours and 5.4% over seven days, after breaking through $92 and $90 in a session that started near $93. Lookonchain tracked a wallet depositing 177,518 HYPE worth $16.08 million into OKX and Bybit on September 28, and a separate wallet it linked to Hypersphere Ventures selling 62,869 HYPE for about $5.78 million. Crypto.News noted that the deposit and the sale are separate events and that the deposit does not establish that the tokens were sold, since exchange deposits can also reflect custody, market making, collateral or a later withdrawal. Selling pressure from larger holders has run alongside the price fall: Multicoin Capital moved $12.15 million of HYPE to Coinbase Prime last week, its deposits since July 28 reaching 4.23 million HYPE worth $285 million, and five other addresses began unstaking HYPE worth nearly $90.4 million. Buying ran the other way too, with Crypto.News reporting a wallet linked to Hyperliquid Strategies bought 494,200 HYPE worth $45.8 million over 16 hours on September 25, and an SEC filing showing roughly 33.2 million HYPE held as of September 8, of which about 25.1 million were delegated to its linked validator and 8.1 million to Anchorage. The decline continued into September 29, when OKX historical data put the close near $86.33 after an intraday low of $85.64, and on September 30 the token traded in the mid-$80s. Two of the six articles supplied to the desk cover other assets, Zcash and Dogecoin, and one covers XRP exchange outflows, so only three sources address this Hyperliquid story.
