Xash CEO Says Stablecoin Issuers Pay Users in Tokenized Gold on Solana

Xash CEO Kevin Huynh says stablecoin issuers should fund tokenized gold rewards for users who put dollars to work in Solana DeFi, not just hold tokens.

Why it matters

Nothing is confirmed beyond one interview with Xash's CEO, and no issuer contract has been signed, so the funding model has not been tested outside Xash's own capital. If issuers paid in gold rather than token yield, they would take on gold price exposure and a per-user payout rather than a fixed rate. Both articles are from the same outlet, so none of this is corroborated elsewhere.

Key facts

Kevin Huynh, co-founder and CEO of Xash, said stablecoin issuers should pay tokenized-gold rewards earned through DeFi activity instead of yield for holding a token.

Users connect a Phantom or Solflare wallet to Xash's non-custodial Solana front end and route stablecoins to outside DeFi venues including Kamino to trade, lend or provide liquidity.

Xash scores the DeFi activity in points it calls XP and splits a pool of gold among users by points at the end of each month.

Reported by Unchained

The gold distributed is Paxos Gold, the PAXG token, on Solana.

Reported by Unchained

Xash buys the gold from a market development fund that Huynh said uses venture capital money to test the gold reward hypothesis.

Huynh said Xash is intentionally not working with any stablecoin provider and is in conversations with several but has struck no contracts.

Reported by Unchained

Huynh said PayPal had put up $2.9 million of its own capital to try to hit a rough 6% yield for PYUSD users in a Kamino vault.

Xash shelved its original plan for a gold-backed synthetic dollar because of the hedging operation it would have required.

What happened

On an Unchained Premium episode recorded Oct. 1, Kevin Huynh, co-founder and CEO of Xash, said the company wants stablecoin issuers to pay for tokenized-gold rewards earned by deploying stablecoins in DeFi rather than paying yield for holding tokens alone. Users connect a Phantom or Solflare wallet to Xash's non-custodial Solana front end, route stablecoins to outside venues such as Kamino to trade, lend or provide liquidity, and accrue points that Unchained calls XP; Xash then divides a monthly gold pool among users by points. Huynh said the gold is currently Paxos Gold, the PAXG token, on Solana, and that Xash buys it from a market development fund he described as using venture capital money to test the reward model. Xash shelved its earlier plan for a gold-backed synthetic dollar because of the costly hedging operation it would have needed. Huynh also said the startup is intentionally not working with any stablecoin provider yet, in conversations with multiple of them but with no contracts struck. Asked for an example, he cited PayPal USD, saying PayPal put up $2.9 million of its own capital to try to hit a rough 6% yield for PYUSD users in a Kamino vault.
